About The Cairn Center for EMDR

The name Cairn reflects an ancient practice: stacks of stones placed along a path to guide travelers through difficult terrain. In the same spirit, the Cairn Center exists to help people find their way through the challenging landscapes of trauma, grief, and life transition — one steady step at a time.

The Cairn Center’s mission is to help you find your way, to restore balance, to offer guidance and direction in a respectful, safe place. Are you feeling lost? Out of balance? Stuck? Are you recovering from a terrifying event, an accident or sudden illness? Are you grieving, confused about the conflicting feelings, stuck on what you wished had been different? You have come to the right place.

Ultimately, the Cairn Center’s mission is to offer a safe, calm space for healing, growing, and learning so that you may emerge with a sense of empowerment and reconnection.

Places to Get Started

EMDR THERAPY

EMDR THERAPY

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based psychotherapy that helps the brain process distressing experiences and memories that continue to affect the present.

At The Cairn Center, EMDR is at the heart of my work with trauma, complex trauma, complicated grief, anxiety, and distressing life experiences.

EMDR INTENSIVES

EMDR INTENSIVES

Sometimes the traditional therapy hour isn’t the best format for focused trauma work.

EMDR Intensives provide extended time to focus on a specific traumatic experience, distressing memory, belief, or issue. Extended sessions allow more time for preparation, processing, and grounding without having to stop simply because the traditional therapy hour has ended.

EMDR CONSULTATION

EMDR CONSULTATION

As an EMDRIA Approved Consultant, I provide individual and group consultation for clinicians working toward EMDRIA Certification as well as therapists seeking to deepen their confidence and clinical skill in EMDR.

Consultation emphasizes the EMDR Standard Protocol, complex trauma, attachment-informed treatment, parts work, clinical attunement, and thoughtful case conceptualization.

WHAT IS TRAUMA?

WHAT IS TRAUMA?

Trauma isn’t defined only by what happened to us. It can also involve what our nervous system was unable to fully process at the time.

Some traumatic experiences are easy to recognize—an accident, assault, sudden loss, medical crisis, or other frightening event. Others may develop through repeated experiences such as emotional neglect, attachment wounds, chronic stress, or experiences of not feeling safe, seen, or supported.

Understanding how trauma affects the brain, body, relationships, and sense of self can be an important first step toward healing.

About the Founder

Colleen Slowey-Morelli, LICSW, is the founder of The Cairn Center for EMDR, Inc, a trauma-focused therapy practice dedicated to helping individuals move through the effects of trauma and toward lasting healing.

Colleen founded the Cairn Center during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, a time when many individuals and communities were experiencing profound uncertainty, isolation, and emotional strain. In the midst of that collective upheaval, the need for available trauma-informed care became even more apparent. The Cairn Center was created to offer a steady place for healing — a place where people could safely process difficult experiences and reconnect with their resilience.

As a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker and EMDRIA-approved EMDR therapist and consultant, Colleen specializes in helping individuals process trauma, complex trauma (CPTSD), anxiety, and complicated grief. Her work integrates EMDR therapy with parts-oriented approaches and a strong focus on nervous system regulation.

Colleen is also committed to supporting the next generation of trauma therapists. Through consultation and training, she mentors clinicians seeking EMDR certification and deeper skill in trauma-informed care.
